Yep, it's fun December 29, 2008 Are you a trekkie? Trekker? Sci-fi geek? You'll get a real charge out of this phaser.
It's mostly plastic but pretty sturdy nonetheless. As other reviewers have noted, you'll find a lovely reproduced item. It looks (almost) just like the real "McCoy" (sorry).
Only downside: the silly "pull pin" required to release the removable "type 1" unit.
Otherwise, it's a great gadget (and stress-reduction toy) for the price.
Happy Grandson December 27, 2008 Our 7 yr. old grandson is happily zapping everyone who is a willing target.
He loves to put the phaser at it's optimum power and run after his target. To him this is the 'real thing'. I'm sure he will have many hours of fun with it.
I found it a little complicated to figure out so I gave it to Grandpa to look at and he discovered how to optimally utilize it.
I think it's a bit on the fragile side, but only time will tell.
The idea of this is good; the lights and sound could be better.
holy effin' wow! November 17, 2008 to all of us who remember the AMT model kits version of this item (sold as a 3 pack with a communicator and a tricoder)
and the fun we had with them (even tho they werent very accurate)
this is our time!
this toy is is freakin AWESOME!
(my only gripes are 1. the locking pin for the type one unit...why not just make it a 'snap in' feature? and 2. NOT LOUD ENOUGH!)
tho neither of these bugs me all that much...
the sound is true, the weight feels good. and its got enough bells and whistles to make up for the minor gripes i mentioned...
this is just a totally awesome toy!!!!
good job guys!
Perfect exept..... October 14, 2008 I didn't buy mine from amazon, but it is definatly a solid phaser. I love it, and i feel like part of star fleet. the only problem is that on some of them, the latch that keeps the type I phaser in place is kind of loose, so when i press the trigger to hard, or i turn the overdrive dial, the type one phaser pops out. it's annoying, but remedied by a light trigger pull. all and all one of the best replicas i've seen.
great! July 12, 2008 this phaser is even better than i expected it to be. i had gotten it for my dad for fathers day. he loved it, my little brother loved it (the top separates, just like in the show), and the sound variations are great! awesome toy.
