Finally - the Sonic Screwdriver January 6, 2009 I bought the Sonic Screwdriver for my boyfriend's 15 year old son, who had replied to every request for a gift suggestion with (jokingly) "I want a Sonic Screwdriver." (He's been hooked on "Dr. Who" and "Torchwood" ever since we introduced him to the same last year.) I decided that this would be the stocking stuffer joke. Turned out to be his favorite gift of Christmas - beating out bigger and more expensive gifts. He was disappointed that it did not make sounds, but he was thrilled to finally get what he'd been asking for since his birthday.
Doctor, you've lost something- November 20, 2008 A neat prop that is fun and highly detailed to boot- Looks as if the Doctor might have dropped it out of his coat pocket. Any Doctor fan will be proud to own one and pull out of his/ her breast pocket to impress their friends.
The LED is very bright, so you can use this as a rescue beacon to signal for the TARDIS-
A Good "torch" works for what I need it to. October 3, 2008 I was looking for another entry in my "sonic" collection so I bought this and was not disappointed.
Fun for a kid, a little flimsy September 8, 2008 While this toy is by far my 7 year old son's most valued treasure, I am, as a parent, disappointed in its overall quality and durability. The plastic housing is not very strong and we've had to "operate" on it a couple of times to put it back in good working order. I have it set aside right now in order to try to glue the two pieces that form the outer stem of the "screwdriver handle" together to make it more sturdy. It is splitting at the seam, not "broken" per se, just showing wear after only about 3 weeks of play time.
The light is nice and bright, it's a good size for little hands, but for a boy who is loath to part with it, it could definitely be made in a more durable fashion.
The 9th Doctors Screwdriver August 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the 9th Doctors screwdriver. In series 1 of the new Doctor Who, the Doctor's sonic screwdriver is considerably smaller than the 10th Doctors (literally half size) and this is a very accurate reproduction. The images here make it look fairly squat or fat, but the actual item is much leaner and looks exactly like the prop from the series. The LED is quite bright for such a small flashlight and the blue is very vibrant and screen accurate. Much like the Screwdriver on the series, it's not much of a light source. It's bright and can be used to find your keys in the dark or something similar, but it's nothing to use if the power goes out. A warning: don't shine it in anyone's eyes. It hurts. It does not make any sort of sounds or extend, which is to be expected. I think I annoyed my coworkers so much with the electronic driver they kidnapped it when I wasn't looking, so this silent one is a relief. There isn't much detail on the item and the blue line painted on the side is a little sloppy, but silver/gray paint is very well done and is convincingly metallic. The body is obviously plastic, though, and is too brightly colored and has no detail. It's quite pricy (averaging around $10+ new) so it's not really for the casual fan. But if you are a fan of props or a big fan of Doctor Who, especially of the 9th Doctor, get this item.
