Quoridor Classic is a fast-moving strategy game that is similar to chess insofar as players move pawn-shaped pieces across the board. The difference is that there are wooden fences one erects to block the progress of and force a different route upon an opponent. The physical blocks are quite effective for discouraging daring moves, and encouraging more competitive players. Players utilize analytical and logistical thinking, as well as math-minded strategy. The game includes four pawn-shaped, smooth wooden pieces that are stylishly stained. The fences are natural wood. The playing board is made of heavy, carved wood that is richly stained and finished. Fun! December 30, 2007
This game is a snap to learn and great fun for everyone. Challenges you to plan ahead! Very well consructed and has a nice asthetic as well.
Our favorite new game! November 10, 2007
Quoridor is our family's new favorite game. The goal is to move your pawn or place a fence to block your opponent's play. The concept seems simple, but the the strategy gets more complex the more you play because you learn strategies from each other. Each time you play is different. Make your opponent move all the way back to their side and they won't fall for that again. Make a path along the wall to get to the other side and your opponent may catch what you are doing and make you back track all the way around. I bought three of this game. One for my wife and I, one for my parents, and one for my classroom. I'm looking forward to playing a four player game other the holidays.

I first discovered Quoridor on Big Brother 4 when I was channel-surfing. The house guests were playing this game I had never heard of which consisted of moving pawns from one end of a board to the other end, while their opponent was putting up fences to impede their progress. I became fascinated with the game and began searching all the local toy stores before finally finding it on Amazon.com.
I was very pleased with the quality and workmanship of the game. It took less than a minute to learn the rules, which are very simple. Simple rules, yet challenging game play.
This game has brought my family and friends many, many hours of enjoyment and I can't recommend it highly enough.
 Fun, but small size and lacking gameboard design June 4, 2007

The game concept is very good. In fact, I give the game concept 5 out of 5 stars. Unfortunately, the execution of the game board is a bit lacking.
First, the board is small. The squares are much smaller than a traditional chess game board. This, combined with the fact that the pieces are a bit wobbly, makes the game somewhat frustrating because the pieces often fall over.
Second, the game is designed for two or four players, but the board is really only designed for two players. The board should be symmetrical for all four players, but there is only a "bank" to hold the fences for two of the players. Even more frustrating, the board is sized symmetrically for all four players, but for two of the players, the space is just left empty.
If they ever come out with a larger, truly four player edition, I will get it and rate it a five.
teaches strategy with simple rules February 16, 2007
I bought this for my 8 year old son's birthday, and it is incredibly fun. it encourages strategic forethought and is simple to learn as there are only a few rules. My 5 year old daughter loves it also, and my husband and I play it without them sometimes!
