Great for hide in seek! January 8, 2009 Got this for my 4 year old at Christmas. He loves it and I do too. After many games of hide and go seek, you as an adult run out of places to hide. This toy changes everything by allowing to hide it in many more places.
A great game of hide and seek January 8, 2009 Both of my boys (5-yrs & 8-yrs-old) have loved playing with it. They each take a turn hiding and seeking and have even played with other friends. The treasure chest seems to be pretty well made. It has been dropped two or three times from about table height and has survived the fall in working order. The colors are easy to see, but there is no volume control for the sound. As long as the kids are not hiding/seeking for and extensive time in the same room you may be trying to have a conversation it's not all that loud. They have hidden the lower part in cabinets and the top can still find it through the wood doors. There was one nighlight at my in-laws that did give the boys a wrong reading, but no other lights or apppliances have done so. There is a little clear plastic plate on the lower part that can be opened to put a small, flat treasure in (a coin or a folded piece of paper). It is educational in that it has taught them a fair amount about problem-solving and trial and error learning. I highly recommended this toy.
Treasure Hunting!! December 30, 2008 This is a great toy! My four year old loves it, and his cousins (up to 11 years old) have a great time playing with this. It is small, so you can hide the treasure. It can be hard to see the flashing yellow X (unless you are in a dark room), and it would be nice if the beeping were a bit quieter, but I'd recommend this toy for any little pirate. The top & bottom latch together nicely, and it seems very durable. I haven't tried this outside, but inside it has a very good range. We can get a yellow X if the treasure is hidden in the basement and we are on the first floor directly above it, and we also get signals through the walls. Again, this is a wonderful toy - I'd buy it for any pirate!
Fun product, decent quality December 30, 2008 This is a really fun toy...my son loves to hide it and have us find it.
Easy to use and a couple of fun options to the game.
OMG, NO ONE SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THE BEEPING! December 30, 2008 I was looking forward to this toy...after reading the reviews, I knew it would be small...I knew it would flash, blah blah blah....What I DID NOT know is that each time it flashes, it beeps SO LOUDLY over and over. OMG, OVER AND OVER. Not just one or two beeps, but it beeps over and over and over, each time it gets a signal from the treasure, it is CONSTANT, and it is LOUD. My husband is going to have to figure out how to make this either not beep and only flash, or at the very least how to make it not so loud. :( I wish I had known how loud this would be, I would have rethought it. It is loud enough to trigger headaches.... There is no visible speaker on it, so to make it softer will mean it has to be taken apart. Hopefully, it wont ruin the toy when we do that. If you can handle the loud, insanely loud constant beeping...then this would be great. Otherwise, think twice. I would have.
