| Features:
| • | The Light Sketcher is a large screen mechanical drawing toy that lets children express themselves with the magic of light. | | • | Light from the child-safe pen reacts with special ink on the product drawing surface, allowing the child to draw with light. The drawing will then completely fade after about 45 seconds. | | • | Lights up with a 3 position light switch. Turn the center dial to the first position and the LEDS across the top of toy, the connecting wire and the pen begin to slowly blink, leaving long dotted lines on the drawing surface. | | • | Turn the dial to position two and the frequency of blinking increases for shorter dotted lines; until position three where the wire and pen remain constantly on, drawing a solid line. | | • | Additional features include 12 small detailed stencils. Unit is powered by 4 AA batteries in the base. |

Doodle Pro is better September 22, 2008 Durable, but lights are very distracting & bright. My 5 year old son enjoys it, but gets frustrated because it is sometimes difficult to write on. I think the Doodle Pro is better.
these are awful September 6, 2008 Dont buy it. I got the kids both one for Xmas and one didnt work when it arrived. We changed the batteries and still didnt work. The second one barely works, same issue. Couldnt get my money back from Amazon because I had bought it in October for Xmas and it was past the 30 days so I wasted $60.
Great toy! August 11, 2008 My daughter received this as a gift last Christmas, just 2 months before she turned 3. I didn't realize before she opened it that you had to hold down a button on the pen in order for it to work. That had me a bit worried, but she was able to do it right away. We also have a Doodle Pro, and both of them get used often at our house. Right now, we're working on writing letters so I love to use the dashed line to make each letter for her, and then she traces over it with the solid line. It's a great toy, and we'd buy it again.
Used for less than a minute, then it stopped working! August 3, 2008 My daughter received this toy for her fourth birthday from a classmate. She was excited to use it, so we opened it once we got home from the party. It took a few minutes to understand how to use it. It is not intuitive. Once I read the instructions and understood what the dial settings meant and that I had to hold down the button on the pen, I started using it. I drew a couple of lines and then handed off the pen to my daughter. She drew a few lines (though it was difficult for her to hold down the button and draw at the same time) and then started to use the stencils. As soon as we started using the stencils, the laser stopped working. I thought it was a battery issue, so I replaced the batteries. It still did not work.
I went to Target to pick something up the day after the Light Sketcher broke and saw the product Light Sketcher and another FP product both shared a video demo display. Ironically, the video demo worked for the other FP product, but didn't work for the Light Sketcher!
I did not want to ask the classmate's mother for the receipt so I called Fisher Price. They told us we'd need to ship the product back to them (at our expense with insurance) and they'd send us a voucher or something to buy a new one. Having read the other reviews and just having a chance to try it for a minute, I don't think it's worth me paying shipping to get a replacement.
I have purchased many items from Fisher Price in the past and love their toys. This toy, however, is a piece of junk, and not what I would expect from Fisher Price. Buy something else and save yourself, your child and/or your gift recipient the frustration and disappointment.
My son broke it on day three! May 28, 2008 My son received this as a 5th birthday present on Saturday. It's now Tuesday, and he brought his new favorite toy to daycare with him today. He started dragging it around by the pen and the toy was taken and put away where it couldn't be broken. I picked him up and the pen no longer lights up, even though the wires are still connected and whatnot. The main pad lights up, just not the light.
Bottom line: it's a piece of junk. Save your $25 and get a Magna Doodle.
