Product Description The Mega Mantis might not look as scary as the Samurai Scorpion or the Rhino Beetle model kits we carry. But don't be fooled by the humble "praying" posture suggested by this carnivore's genuflected front legs. There's much to fear. Oh sure, this aluminum model kit is fun to assemble and comes with all the parts and tools you'll need, along with easy-to-follow instructions. And yes, once assembled the 7-inch mantis has lots of moveable appendages and displays meticulous anatomical detail. Hey, for adolescents age 10 and older, we highly recommend it. But before you coo over this critter's adorable cuteness, keep in mind that Mega Mantis is a representation of a real and formidable predator. A real praying mantis lies in wait to ambush its prey, which it snares with reflexes so quick, if you blinked you'd miss it. Spikes on its legs pin the victim in an inescapable death grip. Its triangular head sports two menacing compound eyes and three other simple eyes, so it WILL find you. And most disturbing is the notorious mating behavior of the female mantis, which is known often to EAT her mate just after -- or even during the act of -- mating. Geez, talk about killing the mood! (Note to male mantises: Make sure to buy her dinner first. And maybe do some extra praying.) Anyway, since we suspect that you or your kid is into that kind of thing, we hope (and pray) that you'll buy the Mega Mantis today!

| Customer Reviews:
Pretty cool toy, but you can't play with it December 2, 2008 I guess I was expecting more than what I got. It was fun to put together, but once I did, I wasn't sure what to do with it! I have it sitting on my TV stand because I am afraid to put it anywhere else. Some of the parts do not require you to screw the pieces together completely, so if you do play with the mantis, you have to adjust the screws. Overall, it's cool and I would recommend it for a Christmas gift. I think my expectations were too high.
