Amazon.com Review Little girls are sure to love creating a home for one of their favorite TV characters with this Dora the Explorer Magical Welcome House from Fisher-Price. Decorated in bright colors, this folding doll house features eight rooms, a working lamp, and fun sound effects. Super-cool "hot spots" let your child safely plug in additional electronic accessories. The Magical Welcome House is designed for children three and above, since small doll house accessories may pose a choking hazard. | What We Think Fun Factor:
Durability: (what this means)
The Good: Eight room doll house with lights and sounds
The Bad: Very few accessories are included
In a Nutshell: There's lots of room for imagination and adventure in this doll house | At a Glance Ages: 3 and up Requires: 3 AA batteries | | |

Children will be greeted with an appropriate saying when opening the fridge. View larger. | Exploring the Magical Welcome House Straight out of the box, it's easy to see that this bright orange, plastic doll house with its pink "tile" roof was inspired by the bold colors that make the animated Dora the Explorer so much fun to watch. Eight rooms in four sections ensure that there's lots of places for Dora and her guests to explore and decorate, and a unique, folding design lets you configure the house in several ways. When your child pushes down the chimney, an automatic release makes it seem like the house is magically unfolding to great her. This feature works best on smooth, even floors, and we found the plastic locks that hold the house open a little tricky to engage, so you may need to help your child with them. Before your child starts helping Dora get settled in this welcoming doll house, you'll need to use a Phillips head screwdriver to insert three AA batteries (not included) in the bottom of the house. This powers fun greetings and a working lamp. An Interactive Space to Share with Imaginative Friends What really separates the Magical Welcome House from other doll houses is a fun set of interactive features. When a visitor presses the doorbell, a musical greeting from Dora is activated. She might ask, "Ready for an adventure at my house?" Opening the fridge is accompanied by an appropriate saying, too. Children can work these exclamations into their games, making "Snack time!" extra fun. When it's dinnertime, hopefully they'll remember that "Even explorer's need to stop to eat." There are three "hot spots" in the house, one each in the playroom, living room, and kitchen. These let your child safely plug in special "working" accessories, like the lamp that comes with the house. When the lamp is plugged in, simply press the bottom on its base and it will stay illuminated for a full 30 seconds. Other available accessories include a bilingual stand-up clock and a microwave that talks (not included.) Overall, our one complaint about this cool house is that it only comes with one sofa, one Dora doll, and one lamp. This means that additional accessories (sold separately) are necessary to fill the house and ensure maximum fun, especially if more than one child wants to play at a time. But this can be easily remedied. However, the accessories that are included are lots of fun. The Dora doll has soft, rooted hair that offers a tactile element to play time. Her arms and legs swing back and forth, so that she can be positioned sitting or standing in several ways. Although, we were slightly disappointed that she can't turn her head or bend her elbows and knees. Additionally, the locking hinges and the "spring open" action are great features, but we are concerned about their durability over time. Occasionally, the house sprung open when we wanted it closed, surprising and frustrating us. Since this colorful, interactive doll house is sure to become a favorite toy that will get a lot of use, and its plastic body seems sturdy enough to handle the activity, you might simply want to find a semi-permanent location for it. This will help preserve the action of the moving parts, and it will keep the doll house more easily accessible. What's in the Box Dollhouse, Dora figure, sofa, lamp, and instruction booklet.

You can change the 8 spacious rooms' decor with pictures, mirrors, rugs, and curtains. Electronic accessories snap into "hot spots" throughout the house and magically trigger lights, sound effects, and phrases. This needs to come with a mortgage January 4, 2009 Sure it looks great! Now imagine it totally empty with Dora sitting around lonely on a couch because that's what it comes with.(Ok she gets a lamp too) Now imagine all the part time jobs Dora will have to work to afford the furniture and friends to go in the house. I believe it averages around $25 a room. We made the mistake of not checking before we got the house. Don't make the same mistake we did. I am very disappointed in fisher-price for what I would call a scam. I'm generally very happy with their products, but this is a rip-off. Heck, they should give away the house just to get people to buy all the accessories.
Not much for the money... January 4, 2009 This is definitely over-priced, but I knew that it only came with three accessories from other reviews I had read. I decided to go ahead and buy it for my 2 year old daughter for Christmas, since she loves Dora. I found it for $50 at Target. I would NOT recommend paying more than that. I also bought three more characters and four rooms of furniture, ranging from $7-$15. Actually, what I am most disappointed in is that if you buy all of the furniture, there are not enough spots to plug the accessories in. Poor design. I guess it's worth it if you get it on sale and your child loves Dora. My daugter's favorite things are the talking doorbell, Dora's bedroom, and the bathroom (plays music).
BAIT and SWITCH January 3, 2009 This is ridiculous, the manufacturer has the gall to show a house with characters and furniture on the box but when my 4 year old opens it on Christmas morning there is only one character a couch and a lamp; while her sisters received a Hannah house and a Barbie house that came fully stocked for a similar price. I can not recommend this house and urge you to boycott it.
Pay attention to other users comments! January 3, 2009 This is a cute house and I expect that my granddaughter will have a lot of fun with it, but it is so unacceptable that it is so incomplete! I had read the other reviews and knew to buy furniture and any other dolls ( it comes ONLY with a Dora doll and a couch :( ) but we were further disappointed to find that the two features that are emphasized, the microwave oven and the clock, are not included either! These two are the pieces that make everything else work! It has no lights and no talking capability without those two pieces! The box and the instruction sheet mention them, but it took a call to the company to find out that they are not included. This is sad commentary on a company that professes to be a leader and an advocate for children.
waste of money!!!!!!!!!!!! Disappointing December 29, 2008 I purchased for my daughter christmas cost 90.00 and then too find out NO FURNITURE or CHARACTERS except dora and a lamp comes with set. So your just getting an empty house for 90.00 . Then to find all the furniture and characters are a nighmare and extremely costly. I am up 225.00 and don't even have the full set. Total rip off. Also sells all rooms with hot spot furniture that there is no where to be plugged in so why sell the other rooms with these pieces because my daughter keeps looking to plug in. There are only 3 hot spots throughout the house to plug in an item. Such a rip off. I called fisher price and the custumer service basically laughed at my complaint. Also what is with the sellers on amazon getting away with selling 1 room of furniture for 98.00 come on how can this be allowed. The furniture cost 9.99 in toysrus when they have them. DON"T GET SUCKED IN AND PAY MORE PEOPLE!!!! THE CHARACTERS ARE 6.99-7.99 in stores. BETTER YET SPEND YOUR MOINEY ON SOMETHING BETTER, a waste of hard working money to be thrown away!!!!!!
