Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The best dollhouse ever. Period.   December 24, 2008
I had been looking for a dollhouse for my daughter's third birthday. I had settled on the Fisher-Price dollhouse only to hear my neighbor tell me her daughters played with it for a day, and that was it. While it looked sturdy, it seemed very plastic.

I stumbled onto this through Back to Basic Toys via a Gifts.com recommendation on another product. I thought the concept was fun- you can change the rooms around, it's open, the people and furniture looked durable- seemed decent enough.

I underestimated how fun, durable and interesting it is.

The open walls are perfect if your intent is for the child to actually play with it. The lack of stairs, doors, etc, initially concerned me, but when I thought back to my dollhouse days, these were more of an impediment to play. I usually "stuffed" them up the stairs and through the doors as I struggled to catch them on the other floor or side. There is no limit to how dolls move around this house- just your imagination. And my kids never noticed something was "missing."

The fun of rearranging the rooms adds another dimension of creative play. My 6 year old son has as much fun with it as my daughter does. I was impressed when he thought to break the house into a main house and a cabin. The options are limitless- a rambling ranch, a townhouse, a modern multi-level- I have as much fun as they do!

The construction is great. It's basically a set of crates which can be stacked. Simple idea, brilliant execution. The open tops are also a nice plus for younger children- reaching in is a nice option.

The furniture is hilarious. It looks very boxy but is already holding up to monster attacks (big brother). The rugs, games, etc, were made as part of the packaging. DON'T throw out the boxes! The pillows seem a little lumpy, but they are already flattening out a bit with play.

The people look very unique. They are made out of cord and bend and stand easily. Both kids quickly took to molding them to the furniture.

My only word of caution is the assembly. I was surprised that I literally received a box of sticks. It took a few tries to figure out how the pieces fit and what exactly was going on (the directions are fine, the problems were user issues!). I put it all together with a regular Phillips screwdriver over the course of 2 days at my office, in between meetings. There are 4 different types of rooms. Once you get the general idea, it's fairly intuitive. There is, however, NOTHING pre-assembled. This is not something to put together Christmas Eve at 2 am.

I could go on and on about how after 3 days it's still being played with constantly by both kids, but I'll leave on this...

The first night, my daughter pulled her teddy bear and a blanket next to the dollhouse and informed us she would be sleeping there for the night.

Buy this. It's terrific.
