Fun, education puzzle October 31, 2008 Cute puzzle for a toddler who is learning their numbers. My daughter has really enjoyed this puzzle. She likes the fact that it says the numbers back to her when she puts the piece back in its place.
Good teaching tool but poorly constructed August 7, 2008 I wanted a tool to teach him numbers above 9, and with the numbers 10-20 each in one piece, I hope he can learn the concept that 10 is not "one-zero" but "ten." I already had the Melissa and Doug alphabet puzzle, so I knew what to expect: the numbers are made of paper glued to wood, which are not very durable in the hands of a two-year-old (and never let the numbers get wet!). I didn't realize that the surface of the puzzle board was also faux-grain paper glued on. This is tacky and cheap and not very durable! THey should leave the wood plain (like on the alphabet puzzle) and paint the numbers on the wood, so they won't come off.
This was the only puzzle I could find with numbers up to 20, but unfortunately it is a "sound puzzle." The last thing I need in my house are more noise-making toys! The M&D puzzle that only goes up to 10 doesn't have sound, but it only goes up to 10, which is a drawback. It's an easy matter not to put batteries in it, but I'd rather not have to pay extra for the sound which I don't want.
If this puzzle had painted-on numbers, no sound capabilities, and were made in America instead of China, I would give it Five stars. I still bought it knowing all these defects, because it went up to 20, which is the only advantage of it over other puzzles.
Such fun and learning as well April 5, 2008 This is great for learning and they have fun while working on it. These puzzles are super. I have them for my son and we play with them together. I also always give them as gifts and people always thank me.
Good but not riveting February 13, 2008 It works as it is supposed to but doesn't hold interest very long. The light sensitive sounds can be fun if the numbers are out and you turn the lights on and off.
Sounds do not work properly December 28, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this puzzle for my young granddaughter for this Christmas. While I was with her, no amount of battery changes or other parental work would make the sound work. However, a few days later, the puzzle did begin to sound out the number that was placed into the puzzle. The next night, however, my daughter and her husband were awakened by the puzzle repeating the number "19" over and over. Clearly this product is defective. I have bought two other Melissa and Doug sound puzzles (alphabets and shapes) and would return them but for the trouble of it all. However, the baby's parents will not be inserting any batteries, and so the sound feature which I paid for will be for naught. I do not therefore recommend this product, cute as it appears.
