Great Learning Tool November 3, 2008 I bought this puzzle for my nephew who just turned 3. I had previously bought one for my 1 year old daughter. She loves it so much and has actually learned her letters from this puzzle and that is why I bought one for her cousin. It is a great puzzle. Some of the pictures behind the letter are an odd choice for little kids, but they don't care. And if you have dogs, be careful because they chew up easily due to the wood-type material they are made out of. Our "T" is all chewed up now, but still works. I love Melissa and Doug toys. My next purchase will be the "Numbers" puzzle because my daughter is now starting take interest in counting. Anyway, if you have a young child who is old enough to start learning the alphabet, this is a great puzzle!
Goog Idea but bad design January 14, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Numbers / Letters / Shapes by Melissa and David
These products are designed with a small light sensitive button under the number, letter or shape. Note that while I am only referring to the number game below that the same analysis applies to the letter (ABCs) and shape games. When you place the number in its appropriate slot (Example the # 2 in the number 2 slot) the game will say "two". The problem with the design is that it will also say two if your hand passes over the 2 slot while you are on your way to placing a 3 in the 3 slot. It will also say 2 if you cover the sensitivity button in the 2 slot with a 5, 6, 7, etc. I returned the numbers and letters game because the design problem of having the game calling out other numbers and calling out numbers other then the number my daughter has in her hand since that would tend to confuse her. I kept the shapes game even though it has the same design problem because since it is only 9 shapes (slots) vs. 20+ numbers or letters (slots) the problem is not as prevalent.
Sound does not work right January 12, 2008 I bought this for my daughter along with the number puzzle. The alphabet puzzle never worked right and the number one does not work all the time. It also goes off all the time since my daughter does not always put the numbers back in it when she is done with it. I like the puzzle part of it but not the talking.
Great for teaching ABCs, but Buggy June 14, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I got this for my nephew to teach him his ABCs. He's learned his alphabet, and still plays with it several times a day. I'd give it 5 starts but unfortunately, it can make noise without being touched (I think you have to keep it on a flat surfact), and sometimes when you put the letters in it DOESN'T make the sound. Also, it does not have an on/off switch and you have to actually unscrew a plastic lid to remove the batteries (not included). Still, he loves it, so just keep it out of earshot at night.
Doesn't always work June 12, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This puzzle is a great idea but it doesn't always work. When my 2 1/2 year old puts the letters in it doesn't always say the letter. It's constantly making noise even when she isn't playing with it. We finally had to take the batteries out in the middle of the night when it kept saying "j is for jelly bean, j is for jelly bean" non stop. Annoying. I wouldn't buy this puzzle.
