Product Description
The award-winning and best-selling Kid-Tough Digital Camera was the first preschool digital camera tough enough to stand up to rough preschooler use and easy enough to use. And it just got even tougher-- tough enough to stand up to water! New, enhanced "kid-tough" styling means this camera is now waterproof. Plus, it maintains all its favorite features, like an easy-to-use format and simple buttons. The 1.5" color LCD preview screen allows kids to instantly see the picture they've taken and view or delete previous shots. Image resolution of 1.3 or 0.3 megapixels provides quality 4" x 6" prints.

Additional features include auto flash, 64MB of flash memory for storing up to 500 pictures, USB cable for computer connection, dual handle grips and a two-eye view finder that makes it easy for kids to take great pictures. Requires 4 "AAA" batteries, not included. Measures 5.4" x 2.7" x 3.7".

Amazon.com Hands-On Review
The Kid Tough Digital Camera from Fisher-Price is rugged enough to go everywhere your child goes. With two-eye viewing, sturdy grips and a built-in flash, this real digital camera is designed to survive being dropped, and it is waterproof to protect against spills and splashes. This camera is a perfect way for kids aged three and up to document all their favorite things.

Two-eye viewing and a built-in flash make picture taking easy. View larger.

Kids love documenting their world (photo taken with the Kid Tough camera).

Big buttons are perfect for little hands.
What We Think

Fun Factor:

Durability:

(what this means)

The Good: Durable, easy way for kids to experience photography

The Bad: May seem bulky in little hands

In a Nutshell: This Fisher-Price camera really is Kid Tough.
At a Glance

Ages: 3 and up
Requires: Four AAA batteries
Easy to Start Taking Pictures
An adult will need to use a screwdriver to install the four AAA batteries before kids get their hands on this camera. With a textured button on the front that releases the shutter and large buttons on the back that let little hands turn the camera on and off, browse through pictures and delete images, using this camera is so easy it doesn't need to come with instructions.

The fun, brightly colored body helps distinguish this camera from boring adult models, making it an instant favorite.

Kid-Friendly Technology
Kids can pick between using the live view on a 1.5-inch color LCD preview screen or looking through the two-eye viewer when taking pictures. The preview screen also lets kids look at pictures the moment after they take them. With a built-in flash that automatically illuminates darkened scenes, and a shutter noise that makes it easy to know when a picture has been taken, kids are sure to be delighted by their images.

The 64 MB built-in memory stores up to 500 pictures and eliminates the need for handling fragile and expensive memory cards. Two image resolution settings, 0.3 and 1.3 interpolated mega pixels, let kids take plenty of pictures and make 4 x 6-inch prints.

Fun, Durable Way to Encourage Creativity
With its big rubberized grips and sturdy construction, we found this camera lived up to its incredibly durable reputation. Able to easily withstand being dropped again and again and waterproof for 30 minutes in up to three feet of water, this camera can handle the rough reality of active play.

The heavy-duty construction that makes this camera so durable can also make it seem somewhat bulky for little hands, but this won't prevent kids from wanting to take it on all their adventures.

Older children and adults may be disappointed by the image quality, but higher resolutions would allow less pictures to be stored and decrease the amount of fun children have with this camera. Kids quickly find that there's plenty of resolution for exercising creative urges and documenting the wonders of everyday life.

The camera comes with a USB cable so pictures can be downloaded quickly and easily for editing and viewing. It is compatible with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Apple Mac OSX, Apple Mac OS9 and requires a USB port 1.1 or higher for computer connectivity.

4 out of 5 stars great in the beginning, interest fades after a few days!   November 30, 2008
indeed, our son always wanted our "real" camera, which is not a toy, so we thought that by buying him his own, the kids "tough" camera, he will finally give up "messing" with our two Nikons.
he enjoyed it for a short while, then... his interest faded, I guess it's not as interesting as the "real thing"!

4 out of 5 stars It's a toy, not a camera   November 22, 2008
The important thing to realize about this product is that it's much more of a toy than it is a camera. It's built with plenty of rubber around the body to cushion the blow of repeated falls and also makes it easier to grip. The functions available are only the most basic possible. The lens has no zoom capability, there are virtually no settings to change, it's a true point and shoot. For children who want to carry a camera around and feel like they're taking pictures it's great.

Unfortunately, if your child is old enough to make even a passing effort at improving his photos, then this camera will not serve. The LCD is low resolution and fades badly in direct sunlight. The viewfinder is both badly distorted and shows only a small portion of the area that will be photographed. And the photos themselves are so grainy, poorly focused, and poorly exposed that it won't matter what your child does. Every picture will look awful because the camera simply isn't capable of doing better.

In summary, this is a perfectly good gift for children that would enjoy playing with a camera. The price is reasonable and it's built to take a decent amount of punishment. As long as you are okay with photos that aren't worth looking at, let alone printing, you'll be happy with the purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Fisher-Price Fun!   November 17, 2008

Would you give a child a camera to play with on their own? Now you can. Fisher-Price has been making children's toys since 1930 and this is truly a wonderful toy for a youngster. This is very durable and your child can drop this camera over and over again without fear of breaking it (within reason, of course. I can't say you can drop it off the roof!). It will survive laying in the wet grass or even under 3 feet of water (for no more than 30 minutes they say). It's the simplicity that your kid will love. The viewfinder is actually `two-eye viewing' like those old 3-D viewers from the sixties. Your child can just push their face right into the camera and easily learn what makes a good picture. The controls are easy and you'll probably find your child shooting silly picture after silly picture until they learn which shots are their favorites. The 1.5" color LCD screen shows your child exactly what the picture looks like - instant gratification! Being smaller, you might have to teach your child to aim higher to get a complete photo. It has a 64 MB built in memory for up to about 500 photos. If you want 4" X 6" quality photos, you can set the resolution for your child giving about 200 high quality photos. After your child has dropped, kicked, splashed and finished up taking photos, you can take over. You can easily download them to your computer, where you can crop them for your kid. After that, you'll be the one ordering the prints. This is a keeper!

5 out of 5 stars My two year old loves it   September 12, 2008

This turned out to be one of the best toy purchases I've made. My two year old son doesn't have a lot of interest in "toys"; instead he prefers the real (and often breakable) thing. Here we have the best of both worlds: a working digital camera that's stood up to the best my son can do. It's the most fun when there are two kids: they can run around taking pictures of each other going "Say cheese!" It's fun to look at the pictures and send them to the grandparents.

It almost goes without saying the picture quality is poor, however if you read the manual you can increase the quality pretty easily. Copying pictures off the camera is easy: just plug a USB cable into the camera and your computer (no extra software needed). Battery life has also proven to be good. I've had it about four months and only changed batteries once.

The only minor complaint I have: the button to take pictures is on the front which is a little awkward for small hands.

I'm disappointed with Fisher Price.
I was expecting a lot more from a company like Fisher Price.
I bought one of these cameras for my 3yo kid's birthday party.
The first one wasn't shooting pictures properly. The images were too dark, even during the day.
So I returned and got the second one. It was worse. It didn't even turn on.
I went through 2 sets of batteries just to be sure it wasn't the batteries.

Kudos to Amazon for its excellent customer service and making returns of defective items a breeze.
