This remote control robot looks like a weird cross between a tank and a tick. It has six legs, glowing eyes, and snapping jaws in front. The best part, though, is its Gatling gun-style missile launcher. At the flip of a glowing red switch on the remote, the launcher pops up from under its hard, wing-like cover. You can use the right trigger to shoot the missiles off one at a time or fire all six automatically in under five seconds. You can even shoot while the N.S.E.C.T. is moving. The missiles travel up to 20 feet because they are made of light foam with soft, suction cup tips and weigh .07 ounces each. This makes collateral damage to heirloom china unlikely. The pincher-like "power claw" in front can grab and hold some objects. We were able to drag an empty coffee mug around the floor by its handle, but the N.S.E.C.T. didn't have a deep enough grip to go around the mug itself. Controlling the N.S.E.C.T. is pretty easy; it can move forward, reverse, and can do both moving turns and stationary pivots. N.S.E.C.T. is loads of fun, but be prepared for the fact that its battery needs a good five hour charge before any fun begins. N.S.E.C.T. comes with the remote control, a NiCd battery pack and charger, a 9 volt battery for the transmitter, and basic instructions. --Porter B. Hall

 What a let down! December 1, 2008
For the price of this item when it first came out last year, I really expected great things. It was not anywhere near the claims it makes on the box. It was clunky, barely walked well, the remote control didn't pick up signals well, the gun would come up but wouldn't fire. My son played with it for all of two times before he was bored and never played with it again. If you spend money on remote control creatures - go with a roboraptor....much better quality for the money.

This is a fun toy. I bought it for my 6 year old. It does quite a few things and keeps him entertained. The downfall is the battery pack doesn't last that long otherwise it's worth buying.

Even though other reviews indicated problems out of the box, my grandson was hooked and thought he had to have it. We chanced it, and sure enough, our bug was one of the broken-out-of-the-box ones too. It is also as noisy as a tank! Surely something I would be telling him to turn off shortly after he has turned it on. Good idea, just does not perform well.

what turd, i was wondering why people on ebay sell these things for 32 bucks shipped. mine is defective, first the controls wouldnt work, then after i pushed on the controls harder it started to work slowly. when you first turn it on the gun comes out of hiding, but if you move it forward or reverse then try to take the gun out, it wont come out and doesnt even try. now i gotta sell this POS on ebay as a parts nsect. if not i might take it apart and try to install hobby grade stuff, or at least somehow quite the thing down somehow. it sounds like they put the motors in echo chambers so its as loud as possible.
im 27, what on earth happened to the 9.6v days when they came out with the bandit, and the turbo hopper, now those were quality products, i remember launching my bandit off of a 6ft skateboard ramp that ended almost vertical. the springs popped out, but i just popped them in and kept going.

I love the insect action of this toy. As noted, the missile firing is problematic. It's hard to determine the specific problem from some of the reviews. My issue turned out to be that the insect wings were too heavy and preventing the cannon from fully rising. A quick fix was to unscrew the head plate (three screws), remove the wings (held by two plastic brackets using two screws each), and then reattach the head plate. I wasn't too keen on the wings to begin with, and I like the appearance with the cannon visible at all times. A very fun toy!
