there is a learning curve October 14, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
We got this set last Christmas. At the time it was almost completely ignored, and seemed too complicated to mess with. We had a big problem with them crashing down. Put it away for months. When I got it back out (I was thinking of selling it)and tried one more time; we started again. This time we watched the dvd that comes with it. We had made several mistakes. The two most obvious are not using the wood base plates on the bottom supports, and trying to make it go down using gravity. By building the sides level and letting the dropping motion move it forward you get a much more stable structure. By starting with small runs, and building on them, constantly testing the run as we built it...had a whole different experience. Our mistake at Christmas was trying to make the fabulous run, without building up to that point. We also tend to put those cool spirals at the bottom, not the top. They are the harder pieces to balance. This is not Discovery Toys Marbleworks..it takes planning and experimenting. But the result is more satisfying. Now my kids can make wonderful things, and want more add-on pieces. My kids who play with this are 10yrs,9 yrsand 6 years old.
Sturdy construction, 7-year-old plays for hours September 8, 2008 This toy is well made, and is not too easy nor too challenging for my mechanically-minded 7-year-old. Normally I would not spend this much money on a toy, but I've been pleased with the how much my son has enjoyed the intellectual challenge!
Great Fun August 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an excellent toy. My two sons (4 & 7) love playing with it. My husband says the construction makes it sturdy and easy to use. We will order more expansion sets. I would definately recommend this toy to others.
No lights? No Sound? No problem! July 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I finally found a toy to keep my children (and husband) occupied for hours. The best part, there are no lights, no sounds and no plastic, just good old fashion imagination and creativity. By keeping the safety of children in mind, Hape Toys created their marble maze, Quadrilla, lead free and toxic free.
Recently, they turned their attention to the safety of the earth by creating the first ever collection of games constructed from bamboo. In addition to being lead and toxic free, these games are made from a lightweight but durable and sustainable source.
Entertaining and Educational January 12, 2008 My 4 yr. old son loves this toy! He understands the building concepts and likes to change the configurations (with my help). The only caution I have regards the marbles. I have caught my son putting a marble in his mouth before. So I only give him about 5 or 6 marbles at a time and don't let him play with the marble run unsupervised. When he's done playing, we put the marbles away. When he's older, I don't think this will be an issue. And--I think he'll still enjoy playing with this.
