Amazon.com Product Description
The Game of Life: Twists and Turns puts a new and modern spin on Hasbro's classic family board game. It is a game of choices, where players can "test drive" different lifestyles, take their chances and experience the twists and turns of real life. Jobs, money, marriage, children and all sorts of unexpected events -- just like real life, it's all here! Recommended for ages 8 and up, there are a thousand different ways to play this game, and no two games will ever be the same.

Updating a Classic
Like the classic version of the Game of Life, the Game of Life: Twists and Turns is based around real-life events. You'll choose a profession at the beginning of the game, and roll the dice to progress along the board. As you progress, you'll encounter all sorts of real-life events (injected with a hefty dose of humor, of course), including marriage, houses, cars and family matters. You'll essentially live real life and make life-defining decisions, but without having to live with the consequences.

However, Twists and Turns has a number of updates in store. Not only does it offer far more choices and possibilities than the original, it also has a number of new technical features that both longtime fans and newly-introduced players will appreciate greatly. The game now features a "LIFEPod," which helps players keep track of time and manage their careers, houses, cars and families with the touch of the button. The high-tech interface adds loads of fun to the game. The innovations don't stop there: each player now gets their very own Visa credit card, which they can use to spend. This not only puts a fresh modern twist on the game, but it also could possibly teach younger players about credit card responsibility at an early age. This gives educational value to an already quirky and fun game.

An updated classic game, this version of Life features a LIFEPod to help keep track of players' careers, houses, cars, and families.

5 out of 5 stars Best Game of the Year!!   January 3, 2009
We LOVE this game! Everyone from age 5-68 absolutely enjoys playing! Less pieces to contend with and I certainly don't hate the fact that I don't have to fix a stupid spinner every 2 seconds!! Kids can do their own money on the lifepod so I am not the one playing each turn! Each game is different and it's interesting to see the kids figure out different strategies each game! The get to see that college is the way to earn the most money and that debt really isn't worth getting into!

5 out of 5 stars Better than the original Life   December 30, 2008
I played the traditional Life board game years ago and remember it was quite tedious to get through the entire game. The updated version with the computer module is much more fun. Each game is variable and you can choose different paths at anytime. The length of game varies too (you select the timing) and you quickly learn what you need to win the game -- shorter durations require Life Points; longer games require mucho dinero. My kids and I have a blast with it and they have learned much while have loads of fun. I had also purchased them Animal Planet Monopoly board game and have to say that was quite boring (and harder to follow) than the Life game.

4 out of 5 stars Great family fun, but needs some tweaks   December 30, 2008
We bought this for my son this Christmas and have played it quite a bit so far. It takes a couple games to get used to it, but once you figure it out, the game is not difficult. The gizmo tracks everything for you so all you need to do is follow the instructions.

You have 4 Life Paths the basically break out to Education, Work, Family, and Travel/Play. You go through them however you want as many times as you want. The object is to not only earn money, but also "Life" points by doing things that give you life experiences or are maybe good deeds. A dollar is worth a dollar, but a Life Point is worth about $100. In other words, if you earn 200 life points for helping your grandmother clean her attic, at the end it equates to about $20k as far as the game scoring is concerned. Being married and having kids, getting degrees -- all earn you Life points. You can choose to get an education, then get promotions, then marry, etc... whatever path you want.

A good part of the game is that it does teach kids that there is more to life than money. My 11 yr old son just wants to earn to cash, but the first time we played my wife won despite not going to college or making much money. HOWEVER, that game was only 10 years long. Up it to 20 or 30 and money starts playing a huge role. Go to 40, and unless you are earning big, you won't win regardless of Life points.

In other words, you should only play 20 to 30 years. Under 20, its pretty random. Over 30, it is basically whoever has the best job will win. We did a 40 yr game last night and my son didn't get married or have kids until his last few turns and he destroyed us by piling up cash. The length you play will have a determination on how fun the game is. Also, over 30 years gets boring and somewhat monotonous.

My biggest gripes are the salaries and expenses. I realize this is a game and it isn't meant to be real, but both are skewed. If you don't own a home or a car or get married and have kids, you have no expenses. If you get a PhD -- which is achievable quickly -- you can be earning massive money quickly. Even without degrees, it is too easy to earn huge salaries ($500k to $2 mil). I feel the salaries should be toned down a bit, or at least made harder to grab, and that the expenses should be harsher. Just play long enough, and everyone is a multi-millionaire.

Overall, that is a minor gripe. The proper lessons exist and they do ring through if you play the proper amount of years. I highly recommend this game. It is truly great family fun.

5 out of 5 stars Life -- Twists and Turns   December 28, 2008
My teenage granddaughters sit for hours and play Life -- Twists and Turns. I enjoy the fact that there aren't so many pieces that can get lost.

5 out of 5 stars great new version of a classic!   December 11, 2008
I have always enjoyed playing The Game Of Life. I bought Twists and Turns just to have a fun, new twist. The electronic scorekeeper keeps score for you so you do't have to deal with a million small pieces {pegs, loose money, houses}. It's a modern new twist on the classic board game. Fun to play with children as well as adults! If you like the original, you will definately like this one just as much!
