Great First Blocks, but they won't last. November 9, 2008 I might have rated these blocks lower, but I got them for a fantastic deal before Christmas last year. As such, they have paid for themselves countless times over. The blocks are a good size, no choking risk, and the wagon is fantastic to store them in. My 10 month old has been playing with these since about 6 months (mostly banging them together). That being said, they do show dents/wear rather quickly. When he is older and building with them more, we will get a higher quality set.
A classic, durable and versatile toy. September 24, 2008 I bought this for my 3-year old nephew. He loves the blocks & his 18-month old brother loves to pull the wagon along. A classic, durable and versatile toy.
Encourages Creativity January 23, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My great-grandson loves these blocks...he builds towers and other structures then knocks them down and starts all over again. He's just over 2 years old. He enjoys putting them in the wagon and pulling them around. In this age of 'entertaining' electronics, remote-controlled toys, talking toys, it's great to see a child using his own creativity to build something, learn shapes, see how they fit into the little wagon, etc. Both his parents and I give this generations-old toy an A+.
Great starter set of blocks December 7, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My son has autism and his program supervisor requested we get this set for him about a year and a half ago. These blocks have been used in therapy and regular playtime almost every day since then.
Pros: Nice bright colors, easy to play with. My 4-year-old and 2 1/2-year-old both love them! There is a good variety of shapes.
Cons: The wagon isn't very realistic as a storage option for toddlers and preschoolers. Usually they end up in a pile on top of the wagon (if I am lucky!). I recently discarded the wagon and now store the blocks in a rubbermaid container. Also, the painted blocks started to chip paint off the corners a few months ago.
cheerful starter set September 30, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a great little introductory set of blocks. My personal preference is for unpainted blocks (for tactile reasons), but the colors are very engaging for more visually-oriented children. Block play is a staple of childhood, and these blocks serve their purpose nicely. The only trouble with them is that there aren't all that many of them, limiting the sorts of structures that can be built. If your budding architect is troubled by this, Melissa and Doug offer boxes of additional blocks for a reasonable price (though they won't fit into the handy wagon). These colorful blocks can also serve a variety of purposes in pretend play. All in all, they are great for what they are. I just find myself wanting more.
