This thing can take a beating December 27, 2008 We got this for our three year-old son, and since we have had it, it has dropped from the kitchen table numerous times, dropped in the car, the sidewalk, the bedroom, bathroom, and anywhere else. It keeps going. Yes, it is pricey. But consider that the price confers to the buyer a player that a three year old can actually hold and use. Other DVD players are much too fragile to hand over to a child. This one is durable and easy to use. The buttons are easy, menus are usually bypassed, and the option to use an AC adapter, car charger, or the built in rechargeable is a blessing. I absolutely recommend the travel kit. My only change would be to ask for a green LED light that changes to red when needing charging. Otherwise this is a DVD player that your child can take anywhere. The stand makes it nice to prop up, and with the travel kit, it can connect to a TV as well. There may be cheaper ones out there, but this is one that you can hand over and not worry about. And that's worth the price alone.
Disappointed December 16, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was very disappointed in the size of the screen. Also I was surprized that after the price I had to pay more money to get the cords and ear phones since in most portable dvd players these are included.
Almost Perfect November 27, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
My son LOVES his new DVD player. Now he can take Lightning McQueen wherever he goes. My biggest complaint is that there is no "hold" feature. My son just turned 2 and still likes to push buttons. It would be nice if I was able to lock it so that the buttons don't function while the movie is playing. I realize this toy is recommended for 3 and up but I still feel it would be a nice feature.
Very happy with this purchase! November 9, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I recently purchased this on Ebay for my 2 year old. We love it! I load the dvd for him and he does the rest. He loves pushing the buttons and carrying the little dvd player around with him. The screen is small, but the resolution is so great that it doesn't really matter. The player auto corrects itself when it detects a scratch on the dvd. You can jostle the player around and even drop it on a couch or bed and it won't even skip. We bought the "on the go kit" separate and it has everything we need to go on a trip. It includes the car adapter, ac adapter, ear phones, ear phone splitter, and rca cables. I had thought about buying a different player, that had a bigger screen and was less expensive, but now I am really happy to have spent [...] on this toddler friendly dvd player. I think this will hold up to years of little hands.
Hanging Tough For Toddlers October 24, 2008 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Fisher Price has done it again and they have released another great kid-tough product. This year they have released a DVD player that will be able to handle a royal beating from your toddler. As a personal fan of their kid-tough camera, I was excited to see how the new DVD Player worked.
This DVD player is built from sturdy heavy-duty materials that can handle plenty of abuse. Each unit comes with a rechargeable battery & charger, which holds a charge for about two hours.
The screen size is 3.2 and has a color LCD screen on it with simple controls that make it easy for children to use. It also has a handle where kids can tote or hold the unit while they watch their movies or you can use the kickstand legs on the unit for hands-free viewing.
Not included with this player is a video out cable for the television, but if purchased, your child can watch their movies through their own DVD player on the regular television.
The main issue with it, as a parent of a destructive toddler, is that your child can take their own movies in and out and a parent safety latch would be great for keeping the movie in there, but still allowing your child the "controls" of stopping and starting their own shows. Because of this reason, it makes it a toy that requires more parental supervision to insure that we don't ruin our precious Dora movies that would be played on it.
The screen size is small, but understandably so in order to make this portable for little hands. This toy has a steeper price tag, but would work great for a family that doesn't want to make an investment in a DVD unit for the car, but wants to be able to take their child's entertainment on the road.
Of course, my parents used to have us entertain ourselves and we laughingly referred to our car as the "blue prison" on our treks to visit the family in Florida. Perhaps something like this would have saved my parents from yelling at us so much.
