Waste of money December 17, 2007 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
This toy is noting but a cheap electronic dictionary with text-to-speech(awful and annoying).
It does not have any intelligence, does not understand voice commands(even yes and no commands)
In order to communicate with the toy you should input the text using a wireless keyboard.... you'll get tired of using the keyboard pretty fast....
A must have... December 14, 2007 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
I had to pick this up just BECAUSE of the other review here by "Larry." Anyone that would spend that much time to review I-que...well, it got me curious.
First off, after the obligatory "Charge at least 5 hours before first use" (I did overnight)..oh, and the communicator device will set you back 3 AAA batteries (not included); you proceed underneath to turn I-que from "Sleep" to "on". Prepare to chuckle...he really seems happy to come to life.
But warning here first--READ THE BOOK before you turn it on and get familiar with the communicator. I didn't do this except up to the "charge 5 hours" part and how to turn him on. I never looked at the communicator so I wasn't familiar with it. So here he's asking me questions and I have to ---oh bother...just read the book.
Otherwise--I'll admit, this is a new review but I'm quite impressed. I can see that you could literally spend hours and hours and days and days and weeks on end and never get to the end of what this thing has in memory.
The other reason this unit is intriguing is that it's unlike other "toy robots" that sing and dance and punch...kids want that stuff...they don't want to learn about how far the sun is from the earth...Things these days are different. So it certainly has the potential for the collector.
I do think it IS well made, fashioned like the I-Robot; Roomba and Scooba (I have both) and self-charges similar to the Roomba. Larry made a point about the charging terminals on the floor--the DC voltage is so low it is not dangerous--unless you place the charge base in a puddle.
I ordered all the cartridges (that collector instinct) and I think I-que has allot of potential...like Larry did, if I need to come back and add to the review I will...in the meantime I'd highly recommend, especially if yer' a gadget geek pushing 50 like me! (P.s. Shipping and packaging is outstanding: Good job Amazon!)
I-Que review November 29, 2007 27 out of 38 found this review helpful
I find I-Que to be a strange but likeable bot...his drive mechanisems are a bit on the noisey side though...his is an intriguing design that is both functional & just plain cool looking....and will likely spur the developement of more capable creations.....one of the innovative ideas implimented into this animatronic artificial intelligence is the ability to select the voice that you find most agreable...another is the tv show alert function that lets you know when a program you want to see comes on...& of course it has the obligatory alarm clock...as well as a "speech" function that allows you to preload him with whatever you would like him to say, to be activated whenever you want...that could be fun....verbal input recognition is an area in which he scores low though, as you must lean in close to him & almost yell to get him to hear you....communication with I-QUE is far easier with the Blackberry like DID [data input device]...his list of words he can actualy recognize & react to are surprisingly low...which is somewhat dissapointing...his speech sysnthesis is done well, & is easy to understand...i have only spent a few hours evaluating I-Que...& have not yet fully explored all of his functions...interacting with I-QUE is indeed entertaining & can be educational...& i look forward to discovering all of his hidden "surprises" that his programmers have loaded him with....this bot is on the pricey side though...but hey....it calls me master....lol.....how cool is that?......seriously though...this is a great toy for those with kids in the 7-18 yr old range....most adults will likely find him annoying, as he really does not "do" anything for you....except wake you up...& let you know when your favorite shows are on....to sum it up, i like I-Que, yet it is hard to pinpoint exactly why....as his uses to me are rather limited & not quite worth the expenditure.
IMPORTANT ADDNOTE - well.....i have spent more time with this product, & have some things to share......1st off....after a few days it became apparent that the bot has a "bad" memory that is selective in what it can/will remember...it keeps asking me the same questions over & over...so it seems the bot i recieved is defective....as, it is supposed to remember the answer to these questions & incorperate the data so it can tailor future "conversations" accordingly..... now to a more serious matter....i do not wish to sound like a paranoid "alarmist"....but....i have found out something disturbing about this bot [ & others....such as "Brian the brain"]....sinister even....it seems our chinese communist "brethren" are very careful about what "knowledge" they are allowing their bots to be programmed with....many many words are being ommited from the data banks of the robotic "toys" they export...."key" words.....words that, apparently must not be allowed into the minds of the masses.....lest control over their minds not be complete....remember.....these "toys" are for the re-education....er, i mean education....[ pun intended ]....of OUR children....due to this disturbing development...i take back my recommendation to purchase this...or other toys like it made in china for anyones children...it is simply not sane to allow chinese communists to "program" our children indirectly through these seemingly innocent "toys"...unless of course you wish to raise commie kids....[ who knows, yours could be the worlds next despot dictator ]...now....i suppose you are wondering what critical words have been selectively ommited....honestly the list is too large, but i will get your mind rolling in the right direction...but 1st let me clarify...i am not a church going bible thumping christian conscious clone...i am just reporting to you the facts ....so....that having been said....let me also say i believe in the American way....freedom & justice for all....& that freedom begins in your mind....for if you are not free in your thought...then you can in no ways be free in your word or deed....so.....my fellow Americans....now....is the time to take heed....ponder carefuly these words you read....allright let us see....some words that have been ommited are....heaven....after-life....ghost....strangley enough....they included "salvation"....with one definition as...."being saved from sin".....yet the word "sin" has been ommited....& yes to my surprise they have inlcluded "God"....[ allthough "Brian the brain" has the word "God" ommited ]...many of the words that are deleted are pertaining to God....the christian faith...& seemingly unrelated other-worldy areas of intrest....such as - were-wolves....& bigfoot....although "sasquatch" is in, & the definition is "bigfoot"...go figure....as i said before, the list of words is long....& i am sure that is just the "tip of the iceburg" as there is no way for me to know just how many & what words have been ommited..of course if confronted, the programers will likely resort to saying....well, we did not have enough memory to put in the entire dictionary....but HELLO!!...the unit is advertised as containing the COMPLETE dictionary....not one that has been selectively trimmed down....this at the least seems like false advertising....at the worst it is an attempt to surreptitiously subvert, & consequently convert the minds of our youth to create a future mainstream mindset with a consciousness that coddles to commmunist concepts...im suprised they are not giving these things away....wait a second!....they are!...lol....i just remembered seeing an internet google ad that is giving away I-que's if you "complete a survey"....or some such non-sense.......i apologize for giving this device a 4 star rating....due to the low quality manufacture, misleading advertising....& the seemingly sinister underlying intent of these "toys" the chinese invent....i change the rating ....two stars is now the best score i can see affixing to this thing...& that i feel....is generous....now....i suppose it is possible.....that the programming of the bot simply reflects "just" the collective ideology of the chinese communist country that created it...& that there was no malevolent intent involved in it's inception....& that any influencing or altering of our adolecent's ideology & psychology is purely coinicidental & incidental...possible.....yet not probable....more than likely....it is what it appears to be...a technological trojan horse of teaching treachery....lol....sorry i could not resist the mind twist...in such trying times....one must keep a sense of humor....or at least try.....anyways....consider yourselves officialy alerted to the potential hidden dangers of this device...oh yeah...speaking of which....there is another topic of concern that i must inform you of...the charging unit is a potential deadly hazard...as simultainious contact with the two exposed charging contact points could provide to be an electrifying experience...[ if they sit on the floor, they could be accidentally stepped on ect ]...i am by no means a "safety expert"....but the potential risk factor to adolecents & animals seems high...such a high risk factor deems adult supervision imperative....& might i suggest the charging be done on a kitchen counter or table-top if you have kids or pets that might come in contact with it...i think if i ever write another review.....i will use the product at least a week before doing so...as....sometimes 1st impressions are not always accurate...lol...it seems i was blinded by eager anticipations & the "happy happy joy joy" buzz that manifests upon the arrival of the UPS van....until then.....take care & buyer beware.
