Price hikers November 22, 2008 Wow. I thought I had seen it all. The extent that sellers will go to to make a profit at the expense of a child...I was going to purchase another van and saw that it had gone from $25.00--well exceeding the original cost--to $40.00...overnight. Not worth the cost and I will make sure I buy it from Toys R Us.
My son loves this but I'm tired of putting the doors back on November 18, 2008 I bought this for my son's 4th birthday. He was thrilled. Still is. He plays with it every day.
From a parent's and consumer's perspective, I'm not so thrilled. The doors of the Mystery Machine fall off daily. I'm always snapping one or the other back on.
The figures that are sold to be used with this toy are too big for the kids to put them in through the door. They have to go in through the windshield and my son was frustrated a bit with this but now doesn't seem to care about how the gang gets into the Mystery Machine. There have been times when the characters/figures won't stay on the seat. For an adult to stick a hand through the windshield to assist a crabby child who wants Shaggy sitting upright means scratched hands from the plastic.
The van is also much smaller than it appears in any of the printed and online materials. Look at the dimensions so there is no disappointment. It would have been nice to see this van a bit bigger so that the kids have an easier time putting the characters inside.
The van does open to reveal a research station. This is very cool and probably my son's favorite feature of the toy. I've had zero problems with this opening or feature.
When I purchased this, I thought it would be a decent value. It was priced fairly. However, that was before I realized I had to keep snapping the van doors back into place. However I do give kudos to the design team for allowing the doors to snap back on instead of just breaking off.
Four stars from a kid's perspective. Three from a parent's. The toy does allow for imaginary play but needs to be more user friendly and durable.
Entertaining toy with questionable odor and features April 28, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have had a difficult time getting my 4 1/2 year old son to transition from 100% vehicle toys to also playing with action figures. Since he loves Scoob and his buddies, this seemed like a good idea and he does love to play with it. Of course, there's nothing educational about it. As far as durability - my boy is very hard on his toys but he hasn't managed to break this one yet. The front doors pop off right away, but they snap right back on. I don't get why they didn't fix them more securely to the toy. I have to say that the action figures in particular give off a very strong odor of plastic which makes me wonder how safe it really is, especially since it is made in China. Also, for some reason, the mystery machine comes sans flowers - which just seems weird. One more oddity, I thought I was pretty well-versed in the Scoobiverse having grown up with the many incarnations of the show and also watching it with my son - the Mystery Machine here comes with some kind of gun mounted inside of it that cannot be removed and takes up a lot of the interior. I don't recall any such object in the cartoon show.
Doors fall off easily March 27, 2008 My son loves this toy (so does his baby sister). The doors started falling off from day one. It is also hard to open the van so it is in half, which is the fun part if you ask me. My son is 5 and has some fine motor issues, so he is constantly asking me to put the doors back on, or to open it. I even have trouble sometimes. For $20, I expect the doors to stay on.
Good quality toys February 2, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
My daughter has absolutely loved this set of toys. I have found the toys to be good quality and very durable. There are no tiny parts. The figures survive easily in the dirt or in the tub. Overall a very good product.
