1 out of 5 stars Very bad design.   July 18, 2008

Got this for my birthday from my boyfriend, and honestly, although I am a bit frustrated, I feel really really bad for him, since I am sure he is very disappointed:
Day 1: Launched the plane by hand. It rolled over onto its back and nosedived. Readjusted the wings, it pulled up a bit, and once again nosedived, this time bending the propeller a bit. This time, those WAY too tight rubber bands that hold the wings actually squished the fuselage a bit at the top, and made two deep cuts on the front and back of both wings along the fuselage. I did not notice this, so tried to launch again, and this time, due to lack of structural support, wings folded up, and the plane spiraled back towards the ground, nose diving once again. Tried to move the rubber bands out a bit to hold the wings farther past the cuts in hopes it would keep the wings down, and launch it from the ground. Plane rolled, hit a bump, flipped forward and snapped the propeller.
Day 2: Wrapped packaging tape around the center of the wing to mend the deep cuts. Wing seemed stiff enough to glide without any more repairs. Charged up and went out to try to fly it again. This time tried throwing it much harder to launch it. Plane flew up and forward, but was turning to the right, so it needed readjustment of the rudder. Sadly, as it came back around, only doing half a turn for what I thought would be a smooth landing into the grass, as it landed, the second propeller snapped, and the wings got really bent around the fuselage. I tossed it a few more times to adjust the rudder without using power to make sure it goes straight, but since I didn't bring more propellers, that was it for the day.
Day 3: Redid the tape around the wings, this time using less tape to cut down on weight. Used only enough tape to keep the tears together. Also used strings as support struts under the wings to hold them down. NOTE THAT THOSE SUPPORT STRUTS UNDER THE WINGS THAT YOU SEE IN THE PICTURE GOING FROM WINGS TO THE FUSELAGE WERE NOT IN THE BOX. The wings are just a flimsy, easilly bendable and beakable piece of styrophoam. So the wings were much weaker, and broke on the first day. Anyway, after making my own support struts, went out to try to fly it again. This time, after slight turns to the right and some adjustments, it actually managed to fly straight. Due to the added weight of the repair tape and the support struts, though, it did not climb almost at all. If it pointed too far up, it stalled. Otherwise it would fly level at about 15 feet off the ground, and dive every time I turned, making turns very difficult. If I flew it in a larger area, it may have had more time going straight and climbing, but I figured I'd find out the next day. So, it flew, just barely, but at most I would be able to make one or two turns before it crashed down due to not being able to gain altitude. Also, battery cover area cracked, and the lid now barely held shut. Battery is very deep in this thing, so that wasn't a problem. After a few flights, one of the propeller blades split and became so unbalanced that it wasn't generating any more thrust.
Day 4: Replaced the propeller, checked everything to make sure it was tight and well adjusted, and went out to fly it on a large football field. On first launch, it rolled over and nosedived. Second try, same thing. At this point something must have happened to the wings, because on the third try, although it flew level, the wings folded up too much despite the support struts, and the plane came crashing down again, snapping the last propeller, and crushing/mashing up the rear parts of the wings, bending them backwards. Creases can be fixed with supports, but both wings completely mashed backwards means the wing is totaled. Also, since I'm out of propellers, that was it for this thing. On closer inspection, it turns out that one of the previous crashes (may even have been on one of the previous days) has completely compacted the spring in the rudder control, meaning I can turn in only one direction if it could still fly. Also, the styrophoam box holding the battery was cracked and breaking, and the rods that you stretch the rubber bands around to hold the wing were actually being pulled up hard enough to start cutting through the plastic fuselage. Even if I had ordered a few replacement batteries and a new wing, this toy would not have lasted very much longer.
That has been my experience with this thing, and keep in mind I build airplane models, and built my own gliders an such, so I know how to fix these kinds of things.

1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time   July 6, 2008

I'm sorry to say that this product is completely worthless. I am an FAA certified commercial pilot and soon to be an FAA certified airframe mechanic. In other words, I know quite a bit about airplanes.

This little model sure had a lot of hype, but it did not deliver. It would not even leave the ground. It didn't have a chance. Just wouldn't fly.

Don't waste your time on this one. I'm ashamed that Amazon.com even has it among their otherwise exceptional product inventory.

2 out of 5 stars Fun to fly, for about 15 minutes...   January 1, 2008
The best thing I can say about this airplane is that the Megatech Customer Service is very helpful. The wing was sent to us with a huge crease that precluded its use (1st call to Customer Service - they sent me a new wing with no charge). The next problem was with the battery - it lasted for two flights (second call to Customor Service - made me pay for a new battery). It was probably because it was recharged while it was still warm from use (a no-no according to the directions), but I would say its a poor design if the battery can't be recharged immediately after use. Overall, for a remote control airplane this price is right, flying is easy, but the quality of the power system is poor.

3 out of 5 stars Just so-so...   February 14, 2006

Well i got this toy for a christmas present and I loved it so much. I had been wanting a good rc plane for ever! I finally had one so I was really looking forward to flying it. I went outside with my uncle and we tryed to launch it from the ground. It would not go straight so me & my uncle were adjusting it so much. We got tired of ground launching so we hand launched it. I tried to hand launch it and it was horrible. I mean you really need to throw it with some force to get it to stay in the air. I really recommend that you throw hard with a very small upward slant or it will nosedive within 10-15 feet. The upward slant is because when you throw it straight with normal force it will fly some and in 30 feet its landing gear will tap the ground and then it will go back up.As i was saying we finally hand launched it and the first time it failed. Some time around the 4th or 5th time we broke a propeller. Then we got it real high and it hit the top of a pine-tree. Lucky for me it fell and everything was fine. then i noticed it had broke another propeller. I broke a total of 3 propellers and finally quit playing. as i walked inside i wasn't really paying attention and i snapped the left or right tailwing totally off the plane. I also snapped the tail rudder. That brought me to tears and i was so sad then. I was gonna get a refund or replacement for cruddy durability. We never got around to it so about a month or 2 later i decided to get it out again. My mom hot glued the tailwings and rudder back on and i snapped the new propeller back on and went flying. After i flew for a few minutes, always crashing it because it went to0 fast I crashed it. I then let my nehibor fly it and he is real good at this kind of stuff. He was used to flying an aeroace and he threw it and it barrel rolled so it was on its side like a banking airplane. The roll made it shoot torwards the ground at real fast speeds. When it hit it broke the other tailwing so i ran in and told mom that the tail broke again. But this time i didn't cry because me dog had just chewed my aeroace up and i was now used to stuff breaking. We hot glued it and then i decided to write this review. It really would be
3 1/2 stars. Here are a few notes for people who read this review.

1: even though this plane states to be easy to fly it isn't very good to be a beginner. I recommend being an intermediate-expert flyer.

2: really try to find a field to fly this in. the reasons are, it has a lot of room and on your street you will never be able to fly it. also it will be more fun because the box says it has a 500 ft. range and it will be more fun at good range.

3: always fly on a fully charged battery and with good light and winds no higher than 5 mph.
